You Are Not Alone.

Psalm 61 is one of those chapters in my Bible that’s highlighted with multiple colors, written on, between, and around, and washi taped like crazy. (Washied? I’m not sure. Haha!)

Used to, though, the only verse on that page that was highlighted was my favorite verse in the entire Bible: Psalm 61:2.

It says, “from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to a rock that is higher than I.”

I can remember a few nights when I’ve just sat and cried and prayed this verse over and over because my heart was so overwhelmed, and I no longer wanted to feel the waves crashing against me.

I wanted calm. I wanted God to lift me high, high above the storm, place me on a rock, and hold my hand, so that’s what I prayed for, over and over again.

Looking back at each one of those nights now, I can distinctly remember Him doing just that every single time. He never failed to do that, and I know now (what I was not always sure of then) that He won’t fail to do that in the future.

Another thing I know now is the only way that God could have heard my prayer each time was if He was already there, listening.

The only way He could have been able to know immediately that I was in trouble was if He never left me alone.

God doesn’t have a little alert right next to Him to tell Him whenever one of His people is in need. No, He knows because He’s always right next to you, watching over you.

Our God does not abandon or leave us alone at any point in time.

He doesn’t say, “See ya’!” when the tears start to flow, or when we mess up.

I promise you, friend: you are not left alone, ever. Period. End of story.

And the theme of not being left alone is not left behind after verse 2, but David, the writer, carries it throughout the entirety of Psalm 61.

In verses 4 and 5 it says, “Let me dwell in Your tent forever! Let me take refuge under the shelter of Your wings! For You, O God, have heard my vows; You have given me the heritage of those who fear Your Name.”

(Ummm.. amazing!!)

As I was reading this one day, God made one part stick out to me: “You have given me the heritage of of those who fear Your name.”

A heritage implies a family: a family of believers who understand your struggles, and who will lift you up with God’s Word when you are down.

A family of people who also understand what it means to be children of the Most High King.

Whenever we accept Jesus into our hearts, the Holy Spirit lives inside of us. Not only that, though, but we also become part of that family.

The problem is most of the time we don’t utilize that family around us. I know I don’t always, but that’s not how we’re designed to live.

We’re designed for community, and as children of God, we’re designed to pray for each other and encourage each other.

I have no idea who those people are for you on your life, but I hope and pray you would reach out to them.

I hope and pray you would know you’re not alone because that’s Devil’s biggest lie

So whenever you feel alone, or you feel overwhelmed, reach for your Bible, reach towards God, and reach out to the community of believers He’s given you.
