I don’t know about y’all, but I love Christmas music! It’s so very happy, and I just think the world needs more happy music. So despite the season, I still listen to Christmas music. I know. Controversial.
Whatever, think what ya’ wanna’ think. I said it, and it’s out there now anyway.
Obviously, most people don’t agree, though, but my art teacher sure does. Or at least she loves me a lot, so she plays Christmas music whenever I’m in the room. Pretty much everyone complains, but she keeps playing it.
With all that being said, I knew it was the start of Christmas season when one of my friends said earlier today, “You know what? I’m actually ok with the Christmas music now.”
Not that all the Christmas posts hadn’t signaled it in my mind, but it did remind me of something God spoke to me the other day that I wanted to share with y’all because I think it’s so important.
As a Christian, it’s very important to take time and to remember the reason for the Christmas season as well as share it with others. However, I think we get so focused on remembering Jesus’ birth as the reason for the season that we forget it’s also the reason for life the whole year ’round. Not just one season.
We get so focused on our advent calendar readings to remind ourselves, but we forget His birth is the very reason, as His children, we have life every day and will for eternity.
Our vision is so narrowed, and it’s almost like we block it off for just this season. But we can’t chalk it up to a birth that started traditions for remembrance. It’s so much more than a part of the year where we put up Christmas trees, bake cookies, and do good deeds.
Y’all, we cannot leave it as a reason for a season. It’s love that came down to be with us every single day of the year.
It’s the reason we can cry to God, and He hears us because He can now be near us. And not only when we’ve cleansed ourselves at the altar.
The birth of baby Jesus in the manger is the reason we can have joy, not just for a little while.
It’s the reason we can spread hope, and why we can have it ourselves. All year ’round.
It’s the reason why we can love and be loved. Every second.
It’s the reason we can smile and laugh every day. Why? Because Jesus came down and was clothed in earthly garments so that we can now be clothed in His snow-white garments.
We praise God because we can have a relationship with Him, for His Son came down, not to be painted on a card, but to be the reason why death has lost its sting and the devil’s reign is over. Forever.
The reason for the season is the same reason we wake up every morning and can be at peace, knowing that we are His and He is our God.
And knowing that He is our life, not just for now but for all eternity.
Don’t leave the joy of Christmas in December. Bring it with you into each day of your life because the miracle of Jesus coming down doesn’t stay in one month. God is always willing to remind you of His goodness and reveal to you all He’s done, so ask Him. Ask Him to make it more than a season but something you carry in your heart spring, summer, fall, and winter.
